ESTABLISHED in January 2025
THE HOUSE
When we got the keys, the school had been empty for two decades. We threw out every piece of furniture, killed a lot of mould, and learned more about roof leaks than we ever wanted to.
Over the following year, more than 30 people from 12 countries came to help. Some stayed a weekend, some stayed months. They sanded walls, laid tiles, cooked for the rest of us, and argued about paint colours. The house you’ll find today was built by all of them.
Today Das Nest has 25 beds across 6 rooms, a long kitchen, a garden, and enough stone walls to make any winter feel cosy.

THE VILLAGE
Das Nest is in Cabalar, a 200-person hamlet in the council of A Capela, Galicia.
Our next-door neighbour is 88 and still plants peppers every spring. Ferrol is 25 minutes away if you need a city. The Fragas do Eume (one of the last Atlantic forests in Europe) starts 7 minutes from our door. Beach? takes 10 min by car and A Coruña is 37 minutes if you want an airport.
Cabalar isn’t on any tourist map. That’s most of the point.

THE TEAM
Das Nest is run by Xeracion, a youth organisation based in Ferrol since 2013.
We coordinate European programmes — Erasmus+, European Solidarity Corps, artistic residencies — which is a long way of saying we’ve spent 13 years bringing creators, volunteers and troublemakers to Galicia, and then wondering where to host them properly.
Das Nest is the answer to that question.

POWERED BY
Das Nest has been supported by Xunta de Galicia. Thank you for believing in the project before anyone had slept here.
